On the outskirts of Nairobi, there is a training center. Some people just see a grey cement building with lots of windows on the side of the hill. I see a light on the side of the hill, I see hope and opportunity. This center from the very beginning has been a group of ordinary people accomplishing the extraordinary. There are not many opportunities for employment and higher education is a luxury not many can afford. But Into this cloud of hopelessness comes a light it’s the Shujja Empowerment center. It offers classes from culinary to tailoring and woodworking to metal shop. There are video production, audio production, and music classes. These are all designed to help the students become self-sufficient with the ability to give back. The classes are free of charge to the students unable to pay.
The building is up and they are ready to begin training the next generation of business owners but they do not yet have the books and materials they need to teach the classes. The cost of supplying the center with the supplies they need is $20,000.
If you look into the eyes of the students, you can see hope and excitement for a future that seemed so bleak. Help us empower the future of these young men and women. Allowing them not only to survive but to thrive.
